The Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Wednesday stated that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

It stated that during the search operations, one 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle with magazine, five 5.56 mm ammunition, two 36 HE Hand Grenade, one Tube launcher, two WP GREN No. 80 MK-1, one Tear Smoke Shell (CS), one Tear Smoke Shell Soft Nose, one stun shell Normal, two Cartridge 38mm Anti- Riot with Rubber Bullet, one Detonator and one Combat Helmet from Thoubal district.

It stated that one 5.56mm INSAS Rifle, One. 303 Rifle with empty magazine, One 9mm Pistol with magazine, Thirty-eight .303 live rounds, Two pumpi guns (6ft and 3ft), five radio sets, Seven country made live bomb, Nine Ak-47 7.62mm live rounds, 25 SLR 7.62mm fired cases, twenty-one .303 fired cases, one country made launcher fired case, 18 12 bore live rounds, one empty magazine 5.56 INSAS Rifle, one empty magazine 5.56mm LMG, two 36 Hand Grenade, 28 303 live blank rounds, 59 nine .303 fired cases, six 12 bore fired cases, seven tear smoke 135m Long Range, four tear smoke soft nose, one stun shell, one 2 inch mortar finn, One broken magazine of AK-56 Rifle and two 161 MK-III fuse cap from Imphal East District.

Movement of 262 and 244 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it mentioned.

A total of 130 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 283 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it added.

Appeal is made to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, it further stated.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, it added.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal district Police along with COB Somrei, 33 AR conducted a massive search operation at Fungrei hills under Nongpok Sekmai PS on Wednesday and seized arms and ammunition.

As per police source, on Wednesday at about 5.30 am Thoubal district police received a tip off that some unknown miscreants have stored arms, ammunition and explosive at Fungrei Hill under Nongpok Sekmai PS.

Acting on the tip off, Special Operation Group (SOG), Thoubal District Police along with Company Operating Base (COB) Somrei, 33 AR led by OC, Thoubal district police  Commando and OC, Nongpok Sekmai PS under the supervision of Additional SP(ops) Thoubal M. Bishworjit, and under the overall supervision of Senior SP Thoubal Rakesh Balwal, rushed to the area and launched a massive operation at 6.15 am by using metal detectors.

The source also disclosed that on searching, the combined team seized one 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle bearing registration No. 18245317 along with magazine, five 5.56 mm ammunition, two 36 HE Hand Grenade (can be used as explosive), one Tube launcher, two WP GREN No. 80 MK-1, one Tear Smoke Shell (CS), one Tear Smoke Shell Soft Nose, one stun shell Normal, Two Cartridge 38 mm Anti- Riot with Rubber Bullet, one Detonator and one Combat Helmet the spot at 7.20 am.

The seized arms and ammunition have been handed over to Nongpok Sekmai PS for further necessary action.
