Manipur School Bus Tragedy: Last rites for departed souls

The last rites for nine people, who died in the tragic road accident at Longsai village, Noney district were performed at the Thambalnu Higher Secondary School on Thursday.

The last rites for the nine people, who died in the tragic road accident that took place at Tongjei Maril road, Longsai Part-3, Noney district Manipur, were performed at the Thambalnu Higher Secondary School, Yairipok Top Chingtha Leikai, Imphal East district on Thursday.

The nine dead included seven students, a teacher and a warden. Their bodies were kept at JNIMS morgue. The last rites were performed after the completion of autopsy at JNIMS morgue.

President Droupadi Murmu condoled the tragic incident and tweeted, “Saddened to learn about the accident of a school bus carrying children in Noney district of Manipur. The loss of precious young lives is distressing. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted, “Anguished by the loss of lives in Manipur's Noney district due to a tragic bus accident. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope the injured recover soon. The Manipur government is providing all possible assistance to those affected: PM @narendramodi”.

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah wrote: “Pained to learn about the loss of lives in a bus accident carrying school children in Manipur’s Noney district. My sincerest condolences to the bereaved families. May God give them the strength to bear this loss. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Apart from politicians, many civil society organizations and local clubs shared their condolences to the bereaved families and are praying for quick recovery for the injured.

Meanwhile, Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) paid condolence to the bereaved families.

As a part of the condolence, members of the local club along with patron member of TAKDO, Kh Joykisan paid floral tribute and lighted candles at the club premises which was followed by a one-minute silence. 

Students of Central Agricultural University, Imphal also organised ‘candlelight service’ with a 2-minutes silence. 

The United Committee Manipur also organised condolence at its head office located at Lamphelpat, Imphal West led by its president Joychandra Konthoujam.
