Manipur scheme workers express gratitude to Union Minister Smriti Irani

Manipur Anganwadi Workers, Helpers and Mini Workers Union on Monday expressed gratitude to Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani for assuring to upgrade all mini Anganwadi centres in the country to full-fledged centres.

Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal, general secretary of the workers union, K Sarla Devi, highlighted that all scheme workers across the country staged a sit in on March 28, 2023 at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi demanding minimum wages, pension and other social security schemes for the workers. Following the protest, the union minister met with representatives of All India Trade Union (AITUC), she added.

Sarla informed that the union minister assured to resolve all pertinent plights of scheme workers across the country which included providing benefits and paying the premium of PMJJBY and PMSBY scheme, extending the retirement age of Anganwadi workers to 65 years, filling the vacant posts of helpers and supervisor, providing pensions to Anganwadi workers after the age of 60.

She also added that the minister had assured to convert Asha workers into regular posts.
