The Public Works department of Manipur on Wednesday presented a brief on various road and bridge projects undertaken in the state, responding to condemnations regarding the alleged imbalanced allocation of projects under the CRIF scheme and perceived biases in executing road projects between the hill and valley regions of Manipur.
These projects fall under several schemes namely, CRIF, RIDF, NEC, MoRT&H, SASCI, EAP, and the State Budget—over the past five financial years (FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25), stated a release.
PWD has elaborated some of the major schemes, stating that the data is being disseminated to inform and raise public awareness about the execution of road projects under Central and state funding in Manipur.
In the financial year 2020-21, a total of Rs. 537.61 crore was sanctioned for 12 projects in the hills, and Rs 167.56 crore for 15 projects in the valley, it stated.
For the financial year 2021-22, Rs 244.72 crore was allocated for 27 projects in the hills, and Rs 66.65 crore for 131 projects in the valley. In the financial year 2022-23, Rs 708.27 crore was allocated for 130 projects in the hills, and Rs 377.48 crore for 368 projects in the valley, it mentioned.
It further stated that for the financial year 2023-24, Rs 673.84 crore was allotted for 153 projects in the hills, and Rs 577.01 crore for 597 projects in the valley. Finally, for the financial year 2024-25, Rs 231.07 crore was allocated for 31 projects in the hills, and Rs 111.61 crore for 9 projects in the valley.
The total estimated expenditure amounts to Rs 2395.51 crore for the hill region and Rs 1300.21 crore for the valley region, it highlighted.
Awaiting sanction under MoRT&H and NH for FY 2024-25 stands at Rs 1374.81 crore for five projects in the hills and Rs. 1125.97 crore for two projects in the valley, it added.
