Manipur: PPCM condemns price gouging in wake of hailstorm

The Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) has strongly condemned the unethical practice of price gouging by certain shopkeepers who hiked the prices of essential items in the aftermath of the severe hailstorm that struck the state on Sunday.

In a press release issued on Monday, the PPCM expressed its condemnation of such exploitative actions, emphasizing that any shops found engaging in price manipulation will face permanent closure without prior warning. The committee asserted its commitment to ensuring fair pricing for essential commodities, particularly during times of crisis.

Members of the PPCM have initiated inspections of shops in Khwairamband Market, and have urged all concerned individuals to refrain from increasing the prices of essential goods. PPCM has urged shopkeepers to display price lists of items being sold in front of their shops. Additionally, customers are encouraged to request cash memos from shops to ensure transparency and verify the prices of purchased items.
