Two days ahead of the first phase poll, Janata Dal-United (JD-U) candidate Wahengbam Rojit Singh alias Bullet, 42, who is contesting from Kshetrigao constituency in Imphal East district was shot at by armed miscreants late Saturday night.
Police said the incident occurred around 11.30 pm when the candidate was meeting some of his supporters at Naharup Makhapat.
Sources said the candidate was shot at by unknown persons who came by a scooter when he was having a conversation with one of Rojit’s close aide.
The 42-year-old received a bullet on his right side chest and was evacuated to a private hospital in Imphal. He is reported to be out of danger. Police registered an FIR in connection with the incident.
Kshetrigao will go to poll along with 37 other constituencies in the first phase on February 28.
