Decrying the non redressal of grievances faced by land affected people at Phalong (Bhalok), the villagers of Phalong village have decided to ban the construction work of ADB road IKT road.
In a statement issued by Phalong village authority, it stated that the villagers had met the district administration with regards to the ultimatum of deadline.
However, the district administration could not redress the grievances faced by land affected villagers of Phalong village. Hence, the villagers have no option but to agitate in democratic form, the release stated.
It stated that the villagers including Phalong village authority, Pumtiang development committee, Pumtiang women wings, and Pumtiang youth organisation will carry out the ban and any untoward incident happened during the banned period should be solely responsible of the government and road construction company.
The statement said that the project affected family and landowners of IKT Road under ADB Assisted SRCIP Project Channel No. 88 + 100 to 89 + 200 within the jurisdiction of Phalong part-III (Pumtiang) Tamenglong District had served ultimatum on January 9, 2024.
However, the deadline has expired but still no necessary action has been taken to address the grievances of the villagers, it stated.
The villagers will start the democratic form of agitation on February 7, 2024 (Wednesday) onwards by stopping the said construction work of the project IKT road and the movement of the company machineries within the jurisdiction of the Phalong Village indefinitely until the entitled compensation is released, the statement said.
