More than 250 villagers from at least seven localities located at the bank of Tuitha River and elsewhere had to be evacuated as the water level was stagnant till the filing of this report. Philanthropic organisations such as ZYO GHQ and VYA Lamka Block had been working overtime to help the victims of the flood which had overflowed the retaining wall that was constructed to control the flood.

In some isolated localities like Zomunnuam, as many as 60 households were affected. The IDPs in the Relief camp in the village were also taken to a safer place. A common mess for all those affected by the flood, numbering about 200 individuals, was also made.

The situation of the flood was put to the notice of the District Administration by the Zoumunnuam VA. Till the filing of this report, Saikot SDO Jonathan Kom rushed to the spot and provided seven bags of rice, three bags of dal, seven litres of mustard oil for the 30 families affected under his jurisdiction.

From the flood, it’s assumed that about 200 houses can’t be inhabited again and that another 100 houses may not be habitable if the water level remains stagnant. And with more rain pouring throughout the day, electricity was temporarily shut down too.

Some of the affected villagers from different localities said that the flood was an annual occurrence but that the flood this year was worse than the previous years. With the water level very high, they also said that they lost many of their household items and livestock but were lucky that no loss of human life was reported so far.
