Manipur: One UG cadre arrested, arms seized

One active cadre of UPPK involved in extortion and monetary demand cases has been arrested.

The Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Wednesday stated that one active cadre of UPPK identified as Angomjambam Mendel, 27, from Imphal East, involved in extortion and monetary demand cases has been arrested.

On Wednesday, security forces also arrested one individual identified as Nganingmi Vashum, 43, from Ukhrul, stated a release. Further from his residence, a sum of Rs 13,11,130 in cash, one 9mm Carbine with magazine, one Country made Pistol with magazine, one Chinese Hand grenade, three Slings, one 12 Gauge Shotgun, 198 live ammunitions and six fired cartridges were seized, it mentioned.

It stated that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the search operations, one Baofeng (walkie talkie) along with battery, one Baofeng Charger, one empty magazine of INSAS Rifle, one HE-36 hand grenade (defected), one 9mm Pistol with one empty magazine, 22 live ammunitions from North Changoubung Village, Kangpokpi district were seized, it mentioned.

It mentioned that the movement of 249 vehicles along NH-02 with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it further stated.

A total of 130 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 271 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it mentioned.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room. It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately. During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, it added.
