A man died after he was struck by lightning at Pothang Pat, Kakching district in Manipur on Sunday while his wife sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident caused by a heavy thunderstorm at around 2.30 pm.
The deceased has been identified as Huidrom Nilkanta (45), son of (L) H Temba of Yangdong Awang Leikai and his wife is Huidrom ongbi Romila (40). The incident happened when the couple were on their way home from their fish farm which is only 1 Km from their house. They were taking shelter at a rest house in the farms when the heavy thunderstorm started.
Nilakanta fell into a fish farm when the lightning struck and Romila also lost consciousness. People found them and rushed to Kakching Hospital but the hospital said that Nilakanta was brought dead. Romila has been referred to RIMS and is stable.
In another unfortunate incident, a farmer was also severely injured after being struck by lightning while working in the fields. The injured is Lourembam Basant Singh (53), son of (L) L Temba Singh of Lourembam Maning Leikai, Nambol in Bishnupur district.
