Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur state council leader and former minister M Nara said that CPI is not initiating any kind of agitation with their three-day hunger strike protest and is demanding an immediate assembly session to conclude the ongoing violence with a political solution.
Taking part on the last day of the protest organised by CPI Thoubal district at Kakching Lamkhai, he alleged the government for not taking up any decision to conclude the ongoing violence. The double-engine government has been torturing the people instead of taking up steps for the welfare of the people, he added.
He further said that CPI had organised a ‘Manipur Solidarity Day’ across the nation to bring a political solution on the ongoing issue under CPI National Council.
He stressed the need for an immediate assembly and parliament session and a political solution as the prevailing violence in the state is a political issue. He reminded that as per the Indian Constitution and the law, there should be at least 55 assembly sittings in a year. The government holding an assembly session which did not even last an hour is highly questionable, he added.
He said that the state is lawless as the 10 Kuki MLAs have been demanding a separate administration which will destroy the state by going against their oath taken by the MLAs and MPs of the country to stand no matter what to save the territorial integrity of one’s state. He questioned the government’s role as both the state and the Central government of a democratic nation like India is not ready to discuss the Manipur issue in the parliament or in the state assembly session.
He said that people of the state have suffered enough and it is very wrong to think that weapons are the only solution for the violence to end. He also stressed on the need for table talks and finding ways to end the issue faced by the people of the state as blame game is not the solution.
CPI Manipur state council leaders including L Sotinkumar, S Sorojini and M Joykumar attended the protest.
