Suspected kuki militants torched two Meitei houses while destroying one with a bomb under Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam district, Manipur on Wednesday around 1.40 am.
As per sources, the house belonging to one Ningthoujam Naba alias Birmohon, 48, son of (L) Birbabu of Harinagar, situated one kilometre away from Borobekra Police Station was destroyed using a bomb.
A house belonging to M Sarat alias Chaorel, 60, of Gokhal situated 2 km from Borobekra Police Station was torched.
The third house belonging to Khwairakpam Pooja, 32, wife of Kh Akash of Butakhal Kunjabond situated 8 km from Borobekra Police Station was also set ablaze by the miscreants. Residents of Borobekra are currently taking shelter at Borobekra Police Station.
Meanwhile, suspected Kuki militants shot and killed a man of Kha Potsangbam Maning Khongjai Thong Makha Loukon in Bishnupur district situated 3 km south of Bishnupur Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Nongmaithem Julon @ Bimolchand, 44, son of N Birdhaja of Kha Potsangbam Mamang Leikai. He is survived by his wife and a son.
As per sources, Julon was killed in his own farm house. He was staying there until May 3, 2023 and later relocated to Mamang Leikai. He had been frequently checking on his farm since then. Women farmers reported hearing gunshots from the direction of Julon’s farm around 10.25 am.
The women immediately informed Arambai out of fear.
Subsequently, Arambai rushed to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of Julon lying on the floor with severe wounds on his head.
A team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory investigates the crime scene.
Following which, a team of Bishnupur Police picked the body and deposited it at RIMS mortuary.
