Umathel Meira Paibis on Friday condemned the extortion of money following the assault of a Tata truck driver and a handyman at Leingangching Lamkhai near Umathel in Kakching district, Manipur on August 13.
Speaking in a press meet held at Umathel, Meira Paibi leader M Ibechaobi expressed the community’s strong disapproval of the incident that occurred in the early hours of August 13.
She urged the relevant groups to cease such activities in the Umathel area, maintaining that the Meira Paibis would support any actions taken against the perpetrators.
Ibechaobi claimed that if the driver and handyman had sought refuge at the Meira Paibi shed, the Meira Paibis might have been able to apprehend the culprits. However, as the victims directly approached the media, the Meira Paibis were unaware of the incident.
She urged all individuals to report such incidents to the nearest Meira Paibi shed to ensure appropriate measures can be taken.
