The Central government must take immediate efforts to bring a concrete resolution to the ongoing unrest in the state, and if further attempts are made to compromise the territorial integrity of Manipur by allowing the conflit to continue, then a movement to take Manipur’s national sovereignty back from India will be launched, said KHUKAMPAL joint secretary Ak Chitreswori on Thursday.
She was speaking on behalf of the protesters during a mass rally organised by Khunai Kanba Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (KHUKAMPAL), All Thoubal District United Clubs’ Oganisation (ATDUCO), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) Thoubal district Committee, Apunba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup, Thouba and All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) Unit, Thoubal.
The protestors displayed a banner which read, ‘Killing of women and children is terrorism, stop act of terrorsim’ while shouting slogans such as ‘We condemn abduction and killing of six persons’, ‘remove AFSPA’, ‘We condemn India’s agenda to cause ethnic conflict’, ‘stop terrorist act of killing women and children’ etc.
It started from the gate of Waikhom Mani Girls College Thoubal and passed through Thoubal Bazar and returned from Thoubal Mellaground Lamkhai to the starting point.
Meira paibis from different locations in Thoubal district took part in the rally.
Chitreswori told the media that the Meiteis have been constantly promoting mutual and peaceful coexistence in the state and working to uphold these ideals. It has never ceased to protect the unity of all the indigenous communities in the state.
However, the Central government has been pursuing activities which aimed at driving a wedge at these indigenous communities to break them apart, she said.
A mediator must stand in the middle and try to stop the conflict, not by standing together with another side, she added.
Despite the fact that Kuki militants have carried out acts of abduction and killing of children, the authorities have failed to declare them as terrorists, she alleged. Both the governments are together in allowing the conflict to continue, she said.
