In a bid to boost the livelihood means for displaced people staying at relief camps, a market shed specially constructed for relief camp inmates at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi, Imphal was handed over to the people on Wednesday.
The market shed had been constructed under the supervision of Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur. Speaking on the occasion, FOCS president Thoidingjam Manihar stated that thousands had been left homeless and jobless by the crisis.
The shed is an effort to rejuvenate their livelihood options and encourage them, he added. He stated that people from all corners needed to strive collectively to aid the victims of the crisis and ease their traumas.
“It is disheartening to see displaced people selling their products on the roadside and amid heavy traffic,” he said. He further stated that the same project would also be initiated in other areas of the valley as well.
