A 32-year-old man was found shot dead allegedly by a Manipur police commando inside CDO barrack at Leingangpokpi in Jiribam district on Monday night.
The deceased person is said to be one Oinam Gandhi, 32, son of Mohon of Bengi Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district. The Manipur Police commando personnel who allegedly killed O Gandhi have been identified as Loitam Ananta, 38, Rfn No.05106802, 5th MR attached to CDO Thoubal unit. He is currently posted at CDO Leingangpokpi unit. The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Monday.
Jiribam police arrested the culprit Loitam Ananta and an FIR has also been registered.
Meanwhile, an irate mob vandalised the house of Loitam Ananta, son of late Kesho of Yairipok Bamol leikai, Thoubal district.
Police personnel stopped the mob coming from Bengi Mamang Leikai side near Ananta’s residence around 7 am on Tuesday. Later, the mob managed to enter and vandalised Ananta’s house.
Meanwhile, the people of the area also formed a JAC against the killing of Oinam Gandhi and JAC members submitted a four demand memorandum to the chief minister through Thoubal DC Ahanthem Subhash.
The demands include suspension of police personnel Ananta and to award a befitting punishment at the earliest. It urged the government to provide a government job to the family of the deceased and a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the surviving family. It also warned of agitations with the CSO’s of Manipur and not to claim the body if the government failed to fulfill their demands.
