Manipur man produces 43,765 kgs of fish, named highest producer

The Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Manipur on Monday announced the results of the State Level Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition, 2024 held on Saturday, on the eve of Ningol Chakkouba Festival at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal East District.

Salam Lokendro Singh, a fish of farmer from Laphupat Tera in Imphal West clinched the first position of the ‘Highest Producer of Fish’ in the individual category for producing a whopping 43,765 kg of fish, declared Fisheries Director, H Balkrisna Singh, in a notification. DFO Imphal West was the sponsoring District Fishery Officer, it noted.

While, fish farmers Ningthoujam Basanta Singh from Khordak in Bishnupur district produced a total of 17,462 kgs of fish and Laimujam Dinamani from Tentha in Thoubal district produced 17,366 kgs of fish to bag the second and third positions respectively, it stated. It added that DFO Bishnupur and DFO Thoubal were the sponsoring district fishery officers respectively.

The statement mentioned that S Lokendro was also named the ‘Highest Indigenous Fish Producer’ for producing a quantity of 9735 kg of fish in the fair, with DFO Imphal West as the sponsoring officer.

It also listed 20 consolation prize winners of the Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition, consisting of fish farmers from various districts across the state including Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Chandel and Tamenglong districts.

It added that DFO, Imphal West, K Gunabati Devi secured the ‘Highest Fish Production Officer for Valley’ title, for producing a record of 47,545 kgs of fish, while DFO, Chandel, Sapam Jiten Singh bagged the ‘Highest Fish Production Officer for Hill’ title, for producing a quantity of 2770 kgs of fish in the competition.

It noted that a total of 1,56,000 kgs of fish were produced in the fair, against the target of 1,50,000 kgs.
