On Day-4 of the ongoing rescue operation launched after the massive landslide which occurred at Makhuam Part V near Tupul in Noney district, Manipur, eight more bodies were recovered on Sunday, taking the toll to 42.
Due to the rainfall in the morning, the rescue operation at the landslide area in Noney district could not start early; however, the operation resumed at 8.30 am when the rain eased off and continued through the day.
Among the eight bodies recovered, one was of Lieutenant Colonel of 107 Territorial Army. The remaining are four personnel of the Territorial Army, one VSC worker, a BIPL worker, another worker of NF Railway and one unidentified, official sources said.
The deceased Lieutenant Colonel has been identified as Kapil Dev Pandey, 43, of Nehru Nagar East Chhattisgarh. The remaining are havildar Deepkar Pradhan, 40, from Darjeeling West Bengal; havildar Chandan Gurung ,42 from Darjeeling West Bengal; rifleman Pritam kumar Dutta, 23, from Murshidabad West Bengal; VSC worker Devajit Phukan, son of Anima Phukan from Laubhurunga Village, Marigaon district, Assam; BIPL worker Neeraj Kumar and NF Railway worker Deepak Kumar of Bihar. The last one remains unidentified.
The bodies were taken to JNIMS mortuary in Imphal from Noney.
