Manipur: Kuki militants launched attacks in bid to control Sugnu area

Bullet holes could be seen in several houses.

In a bid to take control of the Sugnu area, well armed Kuki militants attacked the Sugnu area by firing numerous rounds of guns and bombs starting from 4 am on Wednesday.

The Kuki militants first launched attacks from Khongnang Pheisabi, Chandel district and again continued their attacks from Lailoiphai and Dongyang of Churachandpur district side using sophisticated weapons.

State Security force including additional SP Kakching, SDPO Sugnu, OC, Sugnu, IRB, other security forces and village volunteers retaliated to the attack and heavy exchange of firing continued till the filing of this report.

A woman who was a resident of Sugnu, said that people of Sugnu have been terrified from the attack as the attacks have destroyed several houses as bombs fell on them in Sugnu Mayai Leikai.

Bullet holes could be seen in several houses although no casualties were reported.

She condemned the BSF personnel for stopping village volunteers from retaliating against the attacks and wrongly accusing the village volunteers of attacking the Kuki villages.

She also condemned the central security forces for not stopping the Kuki militants from launching attacks at the Meitei villages. Heavy exchange of firing still continues in the area, she added.

Around 30 vehicles loaded with Kuki militants came from Sangaikot, Churachandpur district side as reinforcement to join in the ongoing attacks.
