Manipur inducts CRPF on Bishnupur-Kangvai road stretch replacing AR

The 128 battalion of CRPF has been deployed at Bishnupur-Kangvai road by removing the 9th Assam Rifles after the Centre earmarked 10 additional companies of central security forces for law and order duty in strife-torn Manipur as communal tension escalated.

A government order issued and signed by additional general of police (law and order), Manipur L Kailun mentioned that in partial modification of office’s order of even number dated August 3, the naka/check point at Moirang Lamkhai in Bishnupur to Kangvai road shall be manned by civil police and CRPF in place of the 9th Assam Rifles with immediate effect and until further order.

Sources stated that seven companies of central forces arrived in Imphal to control the unprecedented violence witnessed in the state. It added that 2 CRPF companies and 1 ITBP company arrived in the state on Sunday, in addition to the 3 CRPF companies and 1 SSB which were sent to the state on Saturday. Meanwhile, 3 BSF companies are reportedly en route to Imphal via road, sources added.

Meanwhile, people from various sections and CSOs have been demanding the replacement of Assam Rifles by other central security forces due to trust deficit towards the Assam Rifles in the present crisis.

Sagolband MLA RK Imo has also expressed his opinion to replace some of the Assam Rifles deployed at vulnerable areas by other central forces to regain the trust between the security forces and the public in the present crisis and to control law and order situation in Manipur.
