In an effort to unite and strengthen the indigenous people of Manipur, the Chadong Village New Site in Kamjong district is set to host the highly anticipated Manipur Indigenous People Cultural Exchange Festival 2024 on November 29 and 30.
The event is being organised by the Indigenous People Forum Manipur in collaboration with the Manipur Tourism Department.
Preparations for the festival are in full swing, with ground levelling, the construction of stalls, a stage setup, and other arrangements nearing completion.
Speaking about the upcoming event on Saturday, president of the Indigenous People Forum Manipur, Ashang Kasar called upon all indigenous communities of the state to come together and participate in the festival.
He emphasised that unity among indigenous groups can only be achieved through meaningful interactions and mutual understanding. He said that the festival will be an opportunity for them to meet, celebrate their heritage, and strengthen their bonds.
Kasar also highlighted the significance of the venue, Chadong Village New Site, which was established after the original Chadong Village was submerged due to the construction of the Mapithel Dam project.
He expressed hope that the festival would bring renewed optimism and opportunities for the displaced residents of Chadong and the surrounding areas.
The two-day cultural extravaganza will feature a variety of programs, including traditional cultural performances, a talent show, and a stall exhibition showcasing indigenous crafts, food, and other products.
Local villagers and Naga artists have also appealed to the public to attend the event, promising a unique experience of cultural immersion and unity. The festival is expected to draw visitors from across the state and beyond, making it a significant platform for cultural exchange and community building.
