Manipur: Imphal went dark for 10 minutes on Diwali

Responding to calls for switching off lights and not putting up festive lights on Diwali night, not a diya or candle was lit by citizens across the valley.

On Diwali night, Imphal city and its periphery areas went completely dark for 10 minutes from 6 pm to 6.10 pm in solidarity with the families of missing and the dead besides displaced persons taking shelter in relief camps since May 3.

Responding to calls for switching off lights and not putting up festive lights on Diwali night, not a diya or candle was lit by citizens across the valley.

Except for lights from car headlamps traversing the streets, it was all dark in Imphal. The main market was dim and there was no celebration of festive lights and firecrackers for the first time.
