A combined team of Special Operation Group (SOG), Thoubal District Police and COB Somrei, 33 AR ‘D’ COY seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in Thoubal district on Wednesday.
According to Police sources, acting on a tip off that unknown miscreants have stored some arms, ammunitions and explosives in the jungle of Phouoibi village in Thoubal district, the team led by Additional SP (Operations) Thoubal, Okramcha Wangkhomba, assisted by OC Thoubal Commando and OC Nongpok Sekmai-PS under the overall supervision of Senior SP Thoubal, Rakesh Balwal rushed to the spot and launched a massive operation by using metal detectors.
Upon searching, the team recovered several arms and ammunitions including one 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle bearing registration number 12CN3137 G-13, one modified 2 inch Mortar, two 36 HE Hand Grenade which can be used as explosive, one Tube Launcher, one WP GREN No. 80 MK-1, one Tear Smoke Grenade, two Tear Smoke Shell Soft Nose, one Stun Shell Normal, one Cartridge 38 mm Anti-Riot with Rubber Bullet, one .303 LMG magazine and one modified mortar shell from the spot, police said.
The search operation was reportedly conducted from 6:00 am and till 8:00 am. Meanwhile, the seized items have been handed over to Nongpok Sekmai Ps for further necessary legal actions, police added.
