Manipur: Huge cache of arms, ammunition recovered from three locations

Based on a specific input from its own source, about the caching of explosives, arms and ammunition near the abandoned village area of Gelbung by miscreants, a combined team of police, CRPF and army conducted search operations from 6 am to 7.30 am on Tuesday.

Huge cache of explosives, arms and ammunition were recovered from different parts of Manipur by teams of combined security forces on Tuesday.

Based on a specific input from its own source, about the caching of explosives, arms and ammunition near the abandoned village area of Gelbung by miscreants, a combined team of police, CRPF and army conducted search operations from 6 am to 7.30 am on Tuesday.

Conducted under the overall supervision of IGP Zone II, DIG Range III and SP BPR the combined team include Bishnupur District Police led by Addl SP OPS Bishnupur, OC CDO and OC Kumbi, a column of 2 Mahar and a platoon of E129 CRPF.

Gelbung village is located 4/5 kms south west of Kumbi police station and it is under Churachandpur revenue district.

The weapons cache was recovered from an abandoned hut in Gelbung.

The items recovered are one A1(AB) rifle, one G3 rifle, thirty two HE hand grenades, four 2 inch mortar shells, eleven Helmet mine bombs, twenty tube launchers, four WP smoke bombs, twenty arming rings, 1 bullet proof Jacket and two detonator/fuses.

A case has been taken up at Kumbi Police Station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, police also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation at the general area of Wangoo Laipham.

A combined team including Kakching district police and teams of D-Coy 136 BSF and B-Coy 167 BSF led by AC Subodh Joshi, teams of MPTO under the supervision of SP/KCG Th Vikramjit Singh and overall supervision of DIG/R-II H Jogeshchandra Singh conducted the search operation based on reliable information at around 3.30 am.

The arms were recovered from the hill range at Wangoo Laipham Mangya near the cemetery.
The items recovered are one Ak 47, five SLR, one 303 rifle(modified), one Insas rifle, three 303 rifles, two single barrel guns, 11 HE grenades, one chinese hand grenade, three WP gren MKIs, 15 grenade launching tubes, small amount of suspected pek along with fuse, eight detonators, two detonator boxes, six ballistic cartridges, three empty cases of 12 bore, one bullet proof vest, two walkie talkie (baofeng) sets, one empty AK -47 magazine, one empty Insas rifle magazine, four empty 303 rifle magazines, five empty SLR rifle magazines and one local made pipe bomb.

The recovered items were seized from the spot and handed over to Wangoo police station for further necessary action.

The Assam Rifles on the other hand, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S), carried out a joint cordon and search operation alongwith ITBP and Churachandpur Police on Tuesday following specific inputs on  the likely presence of weapon and ammunition cache in general area Lamzang Village of Churachandpur District.

A press release by HQ IG AR ( South ) said that during the cordon and search operation, one 40 mm grenade launcher (Police weapon), one 12 mm Rifle (Local Made), two 40 mm Grenade (Police ammunition), one 40 mm Grenade Launcher (Local Made) and two 40 mm Grenade (Local Made) were recovered at the outskirts of Lamjang Village, Churachandpur district.

The recovered weapons and ammunition have been handed over to Singhat Police Station for further investigation, said the press statement.

Meanwhile, a release from Police Control room adds another arms recovery from Champai under Leimakhong PS Kangpokpi district in search operations.

The recovery included one SLR with magazine, two country made SBBL, 20 rounds of 12 bore ammunition,15 tear gas shells, one 40 mm Lethode gun and five Pompi guns.
