The Manipur High Court has given three weeks to Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba to file a counter affidavit in connection to an election petition filed by T Mangibabu, a Congress candidate who contested in the recent Rajya Sabha election.
The petition was heard by the single bench of Justice A Bimol of the High Court on Friday wherein the counsel of L Sanajaoba pleaded for more time to file a counter affidavit. The matter was listed on October 5.
Mangibabu filed the petition, raising allegations that the Rajya Sabha election was not free and fair.
Meanwhile, the argument hearing before the high court is continuing on the disqualification cases of three former MLAs namely, Y Surchandra of Kakching assembly constituency, Sanasam Bira of Kumbi assembly constituency and Ksh Biren of Lamlai assembly constituency.
They had filed civil writ petitions before the high court by challenging their disqualification.
