Manipur Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan on Tuesday issued a stern warning to government doctors engaging in private practice, stating that legal action would be taken against those found violating regulations.
His remarks came during the 13th foundation day celebrations of the College of Nursing, Lamphelpat, and the oath-taking ceremony for the 2024-2025 1st Semester Batch of BSc Nursing students, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the College.
Minister Ranjan, who was the chief guest at the event, expressed the government’s commitment to improving the healthcare sector in the state.
He highlighted that the government is actively working to address challenges within the sector, including the issue of government doctors practicing in private firms and clinics.
“Government doctors must focus on serving the public through government institutions. Any doctor found engaging in private practice will face legal action,” Ranjan stated, reinforcing the government’s stance on upholding professionalism and ethical standards.
During his address, Dr Ranjan encouraged junior nursing students to seek guidance from their senior peers and assured them that any grievances faced by the nursing community would be addressed on a priority basis. “The government is committed to ensuring that the nursing community is well-supported, and we will work to resolve any issues they face,” he said.
He also appreciated the dedication and hard work of nurses, particularly during times of crisis.
The event also witnessed the presence of the director of Health Services Dr N Surbala Devi, Principal of the College of Nursing Dr A Jamuna Devi, and Registrar of the Manipur Nursing Council Dr Chambow Golmei, began with a floral tribute to the portrait of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
