The Governor’s Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Thursday issued a clarification pertaining to a social media post made by climate activist Licipriya Kangujam who alleged that Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya is planning to run away from Imphal.

A clarification issued by the Governor’s Secretariat stated that the post is unfortunate and not expected from a sensible citizen of the country.

It appears that Licypriya is not well aware of the procedure of the programme of the Governor, it stated.

Lakshman Prasad Acharya is the full-fledged Governor of Assam and in addition, he is looking after Manipur only as an additional charge, it stated.

During a month, the governor travels not only in these two states but outside the state also to attend important official meetings, etc, it mentioned. He was at Imphal upto July 31 and left for Delhi. After returning from Delhi, he visited Imphal on August 7 and left Imphal for Guwahati on Wednesday, it stated.

While staying at Imphal, he met high ranking civil and military officials, apart from convening a security meeting and discussed issues, especially pertaining to the current turmoil, it mentioned.

In addition, he met representatives of students’ union/organisation and kept them informed of the action already taken up or proposed to be taken up by both the Central and state governments to bring peace and tranquility in the state and resolve the crisis through an amicable peaceful dialogue, it added.

It further stated that the governor left Imphal on Wednesday for Guwahati (Assam), his state, to attend an important official commitment there. He is visiting Manipur shortly to monitor the situation.

“He stays more at Imphal than even his own state Assam because of the prevailing situation here. Assam being the largest state in the NE Region, he has various social and official obligations. Even then, due to the current crisis in the state, he, more often than not, visited Imphal leaving behind the important social and official commitments in Assam,” it added.
