“From purely being a festival, we have seen changes in the celebration, with sports becoming an important item in various areas of the State. Sports is also ingrained with the spirit of Yaoshang, where the emphasis is more on participation irrespective of age, caste, sex and creed. It is heartening that all communities are joining in the celebrations,” it mentioned.

“On the occasion of Yaoshang this year, let us all resolve to pave a way for a better and peaceful Manipur where every community respects each other and appreciates the space and functions of other communities and as a matter of fact joins these whole heartedly. Let us all observe the festival in its true spirit,” it added.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated in his message that Yaoshang, celebrated for five days starting from the full moon day of the lunar month of Lamta signals the coming of spring, ushering the birth and growth of new beginnings.

It further stated that the festival provides a platform for social bonding for people of all communities and from all walks of life. Sports and indigenous events witnessed during the five-day long festival have a powerful impact on social bonding for people from different social, economic, and religious backgrounds, it statedd.

The state is slowly returning towards normalcy after going through a tough phase which had challenged the peaceful coexistence of the people and disrupted all economic, developmental activities, it mentioned.
