Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda attend Hun festival

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda was warmly welcomed by the Thadou people while he beat the Thadou traditional gong called Dahpi.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda on Wednesday attended the fourth session of the Hun celebration as chief guest while Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh attended as the guest of honour.

While Manipur's Textiles, Commerce, and Industry, and Cooperation Minister,Nemcha Kipgen, who is also the local MLA attended as the chief host, Minister for Tribal Affairs and Hills, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Letpao Haokip attended as functional president.

BJP state general secretary (Organisation) Manipur and Nagaland, Abhay Kumar Giri, and MLA Sapam Kunjakishore Keba Singh, who is also the chairman of Manipur Electronics Development Corporation Limited attended as special guests.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda was warmly welcomed by the Thadou people while he beat the Thadou traditional gong called Dahpi and inspected the Thadou traditional hut and indigenous items inside the Hut accompanied by the Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Manipur's Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Letpao Haokip and others dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Arjun Munda expressed his excitement to partake of the Thadou tribe in their biggest cultural festival Hun.

The Union Tribal Affairs Minister also danced together with the Thadou people on the stage along with other dignitaries.

He also said that the Government of India, under the leadership of PM Modi had initiated several schemes, projects, and policies for the development of the tribal people of India including the Manipur tribals, and would invest in terms of hundreds of crore in it.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh also spoke on the occasion.

Later in the after, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey graced the fifth session of the Hun celebration at Brig M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi as chief guest.

IPR Minister Ranjan Sapam Singh attended as the guest of honour while additional chief secretary Paulunthang Vaiphei, attended as the functional president.

While Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti Singh and Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar attended as special guests, Thadou Inpi-GHQ, Yanglet Haokip, who is also the vice-chairman of Manipur State Disaster Management Authority attended as the chief host in the presence of the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen, who is also the Minister for Textiles, Commerce, and Industry and Cooperation.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Anusuiya Uikey appreciated the Thadou tribe for organizing the Hun cultural festival under the theme, "drug-free society".

She said that the Hun celebration with its theme, "drug-free society" would play a pivotal role in saving many young lives from the menacing drugs and also in eradicating drugs in society.

The governor, while acknowledging the immense contribution of the tribal people in the nation, said that land, water, and forest are protected and preserved by the tribal people in India.

She also said that the tribal people in the country deserved a proper lifestyle and development while adding that the problems and grievances of the tribal people need to be addressed accordingly.

She also assured to seriously look into the problems and grievances of the tribal people and also do her best to address the problems and grievances of the tribal people of Manipur accordingly.

Minister Ranjan Sapam Singh, MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, and MLA Thangjam Arunkumar also spoke on the occasion.
