Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey holds high-level meet to resolve DMU crisis

During the meeting, the Governor enquired about the issues faced by the students in the absence of a regular vice chancellor and segistrar, stated a release from the Governor’s Secretariat.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey convened a meeting with Education Minister Th Basantakumar Singh, chief secretary, Manipur, Vineet Joshi and Education Commissioner H Gyan Prakash ar Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and discussed the issues pertaining to the administration and development of Dhanamanjuri University.

During the meeting, the Governor enquired about the issues faced by the students in the absence of a regular vice chancellor and segistrar, stated a release from the Governor’s Secretariat. She also enquired about the status of joining the teaching and non-teaching staff, it stated.

Briefing the Governor, Education Minister, Th Basantakumar informed her that the results of the same will be declared soon. He also assured that steps for nomination of a UGC member for the appointment process of a new VC will soon be initiated, it mentioned.

While, Chief Secretary told the Governor that the process for recruitment of a new Vice Chancellor is in progress and advertisement for the same will be issued shortly, it stated. Arrangement for appointment of a new Registrar is on, he added.

Uikey also urged them to expedite ways to sort out all issues pertaining to the students and teaching community, it asserted. She further asked them to expedite the process of new recruitment including the VC, it stated.

She then enquired about the status of students of various colleges living in relief camps and asked the Chief Secretary to take up necessary steps for them, it stated.

The Governor also enquired about the implementation of NEP-2020 to the universities and colleges in the State and directed the officials to organize regular meetings of all central, state and private universities in the State at Raj Bhavan, it mentioned.

Meanwhile, Major General Ravroop Singh, IGAR (South) also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan and briefed her about the prevailing security situation in the State, it stated.

He informed her that Assam Rifles is helping the administration in controlling the situation by deploying its personnel to vulnerable areas including the far flung interior areas of Jiribam district, it noted.

The force is prepared to face any eventuality at any point in time so that peace prevails anywhere in the State, he maintained. Governor Uikey appreciated their efforts and asked them to continue the same for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state, the release added.
