Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on separate occasions and apprised them about the prevailing situation in Manipur.
A release from the Raj Bhavan, Imphal, stated that the governor called on the prime minister and apprised him of the prevailing situation in the state and informed him in detail about the series of violent incidents taking place both in the hill and valley districts which led to the loss of lives and properties.
She also informed the prime minister about the various measures taken up by the Union and state government to restore peace and normalcy, it continued.
She also mentioned the queries received from CSOs, political representatives and student organisations from the Meitei, Kuki and Naga communities of the state as well. She also explained the grievances of the displaced people in both hills and valleys as well as the steps taken up by the government for their early resettlement and rehabilitation, it added.
The state governor also called on Amit Shah informing that after his visit, peace and normalcy have been restored in Manipur to some extent, though a few violent incidents have taken place.
Steps to restore peace and normalcy in the state, early resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced victims, education and trust building between both the warring communities were also discussed. She also briefed the home minister about her visit to the hill and valley districts and the Union home minister assured to extend all possible assistance to Manipur so that normalcy and peace is restored at the earliest, it added.
It continued that the governor also called on Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and applauded the efforts of the Army for carrying out relief and rescue operations in the aftermath of the communal violence and providing aid to the civil administration in the violence-hit state.
She briefed the defence minister about the joint combing operations carried out by the Army along with other state/paramilitary forces at various sensitive locations and the consequent recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition, it maintained.
The governor also mentioned that she is being regularly briefed by the higher rank army/Assam Rifles officers about the security situation in Manipur, it continued. She informed that multiple medical camps have been organised by Army/Assam Rifles at various places for the affected people both in the hills and valleys district, it added.
