Manipur government rolls out measures to curb gun-related violence

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said during the state Assembly session that the process for verification and renewal of arm licenses have been initiated across the state in an effort to curb gun-related violence in the state.

"The process for verification and renewal of arm licenses have been initiated across the state. The state government has launched these measures to curb &prevent incidents of gun-related violence & to ensure that the rule of law prevails in the state," the chief minister said while speaking during the ongoing third session of the state Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned that the Imphal Free Press in several of its editorial has been driving home the need to check the prevalent gun culture and curb gun-related violence that has claimed several lives in the state.

Pointing out that there is a proliferation of licensed guns everywhere as everyone with means can obtain a gun license and procure guns in the state, the IFP has been drawing the attention of all stakeholders how possessing of arms has become a prestige symbol in recent times.
