Manipur: Four arrested, arms recovered

According to Manipur Police Control Room, the situation in the state was tense over the last 24 hours but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors.

At least four were arrested and weapons recovered by security forces and state police over the last 24 hours in separate incidents.

According to Manipur Police Control Room, the situation in the state was tense over the last 24 hours but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors.

The police said that search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Kakching and Churachandpur districts.

During the operations, three local made Single Barrel Gun, one local made Pistol, two local made mortar, one Tear Gas Gun (Regd. No. CWS 892205), two 9mm Ammunition, three tear smoke shells, fake currency amounting to Rs 1200 and one bag were recovered from D Haolenjang village bordering D Moljang Village in Churachandpur district, the police said.

The police also stated that in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, Manipur Police arrested four individuals near Leingangpokpi OP and recovered 20 soap caps containing brown colour powder (suspected to be contraband drugs) weighing a total of 254.52 grams, four mobile phones, one Maruti Gypsy vehicle from their possession.

A case has been registered at Jiribam PS for further investigation, the police said.

The police also informed that movement of 352 and 311 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it said.

A total of 141 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 323 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, the police said.
