The Federation of Civil Societies Organisation (FOCS), along with 17 other civil bodies, has called upon the people of Manipur to stage mass statewide sit-in on Wednesday (November 20) to demand befitting actions against the terrorists involved in the barbaric murder of the six hostages and repeal AFSPA from six valley police stations and 19 other locations in Manipur.

FOCS also noted that the group, along with 17 of its affiliates, would be working collectively under the banner ‘FOCS Working Committee’ till the crisis was brought to an amicable resolution.

Speaking to the  media at Castle Hotel, Imphal, FOCS president Th Manihar expressed discontentment over the failure of the 50 MLAs to respond to the 24 hour ultimatum set by FOCS regarding their stance on the Manipur crisis.

“Their failure to clarify their final stance tells us that they are unpatriotic and indifferent to the suffering of thousands,” he said.

As such, he demanded all political party leaders and 50 MLAs to swiftly initiate a meeting with the working committee within three days.

“We will meet them separately or in groups if they want. If they fail to honour the deadline there is no assurance that a similar incident to the Kangla meeting will not recur,” he added.
He highlighted that FOCS will not be responsible for any damage or untoward incidents which results from the authorities’ silence and disregard.

He pointed out that the sit-in would put forth various demands which includes repeal of AFSPA from six police stations and 19 other locations in Manipur, implement NRC in Manipur and to announce the 10 Chin-Kuki-Zo MLAs as terrorists and book them under befitting laws.

He further appealed to people to refrain from violence during the mass sit-in and conduct peaceful protests.
