Manipur: Final rites of Ningthoukhong gun victims performed

Four persons were gunned down by suspected Kuki militants at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Maning on January 18.

The final rites of the four deceased who were gunned down by suspected Kuki militants at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Maning on January 18 were performed at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No. 4 on Tuesday.

The four deceased are Oinam Bamonjao, 60, his son Oinam Manitomba, 32, Thiyam Somendro, 53, son of  (L) Th Manibabu and Ningthoujam Nabadip, 41, all from Ningthoukhong kha Khunou Ward No. 4.

As per sources, nearby villagers found their bodies lying next to each other when they went to check the area after they heard gunshots. There are no Kuki villages near the area where their farm is located, added the reports.

The bodies of the deceased were kept at RIMS mortuary for postmortem.

On Tuesday families and well wishers swarmed the RIMS mortuary to take the bodies for the burial at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No. 4.

Thousands of mourners lined along the Imphal-Churachandpur road to pay their final respects to the deceased.

At the burial site the bodies were laid to rest with full honours as the people shouted slogans decrying the inhumane attack on innocent villagers and demanding the government to resolve the conflict.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Konthoujam Govindas also attended the burial.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with his cabinet colleagues visited the families of the deceased on January 21.

He assured to hunt down the perpetrators and book them as per the law of the land.
