Manipur: Elderly voter sustains bullet injury, three arrested

A senior voter sustained bullet injury at 3/11 Polling Station Moirang Kampu Sajeb Upper Primary School under Khurai constituency after unknown armed miscreants fired gunshots at the polling station on Friday at around 1.50 pm.

The injured is Khoisnam Sanayaima, 75, son of (L) Kh Abung of Moirang Kampu Sajeb Maning Leikai.

As per family members of the injured, five people came in a silver-colored XUV car and two of them went inside the polling station while the rest remained in the car.

Sounds of heated arguments with the agents were heard inside the polling station. Then, the two were seen running out from the polling station while the others were trying to catch them, the family said.

Sources added that one of the miscreants jumped into the car and the other one fled the scene. Two-three rounds of gunshots were fired from the car which hit the right side of Sanayaima’s lower back. The incident led to the dispersal of the voters in the area and voting in the polling station could not be continued as planned.

The injured person is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

Khurai MLA and Minister L Susindro came to Raj Medicity to look into the injured person.
Meanwhile, three persons were arrested by police in connection with the firing incident at Moirangkampu primary school in which one person was injured, while arms were seized from their possession on Friday.

A release issued by the Police Control Room, Manipur Police stated that the arrested persons are identified as Leichombam Jemson Singh, 34, Nongthombam Ratan, 47, Khumukcham Angambam, 32. One .32 pistol with 8 live ammunition, three mobile phones, one car, Rs 1.5 Lakh in cash were seized from their possession.
