The Manipur government has lifted the curfew in all areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts from 5 am to 12 noon for Friday.
Initially, orders on curfew relaxation timings from 5 am till 4 pm was issued earlier in the evening by all district magistrates. Later on, the relaxation was shortened to 12 noon.
As per the latest order issued by the respective District Magistrates on Thursday said that the restriction of movement of persons outside their respective residences imposed in the district has been relaxed from 5 till 12 noon.
The magistrates stated that there is necessity to relax the restriction of movement to facilitate the public to purchase essential items including medicines and food items etc,. However, the relaxation will not apply to any gathering/large-scale movement of persons/sit-in-protests/rally etc. which is unlawful in nature, they asserted.
However, the orders mentioned that all persons belonging to essential services such as Health, PHED, CAF&PD, Municipal officials/Staff, Power (MSPDCL/MSPCL), Petrol Pumps, media, functioning of Courts, banks including ATM cash filling officials/staff, telecom service providers, officials of Child Helpline, Women Helpline, Elder-line on official duty and to and fro movement of flight passengers to airport will be exempted from further imposition of curfew.
The orders stated that during the relaxation hours, assembly of five or more persons without approval of competent authority and carrying of sticks, stones, firearms without a valid licence, weapons or objects of any description, which can be used as offensive weapons are prohibited.
