The Churachandpur district administration, in a fresh order issued on Wednesday, has imposed a total curfew for three days starting from October 16 as a precautionary measure.

The government order, signed by District Magistrate Dharun Kumar S, mentioned that reports from the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur, indicated suspicion of a potential breach of law and order in Churachandpur town, which could be detrimental to public peace and tranquillity.

As a preventive measure under Section 163 of the BNSS 2023, the prohibitory order will remain effective from 6 pm on October 16 to 8 am on October 18, or until further notice.

The order applies to the entire Churachandpur district. However, the prohibition does not apply to government agencies involved in enforcing law and order or maintaining essential services, the order stated.

Meanwhile, the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Moreh Block, informed all private, aided, and government schools and colleges under Moreh Sub-Division, Tengnoupal district, to observe the 107th anniversary of the controversial “Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919).”

The Kuki students’ body also directed all educational institutions to remain closed on October 17 in observance of the anniversary.

Putting fire by unknown miscreants on the controversial memorial gate of the “Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919),” erected between Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts along Tiddim Road, has been one of the contributing factors to the ongoing Manipur crisis.

On May 3, 2023, a mass rally protested against the recommendation to grant Scheduled Tribe status to the Meitei community. After the protest, a Meitei village in Churachandpur district was the first to be attacked.
