Manipur Crisis: Naga, Meitei local bodies resolve to collectively work towards normalcy

The resolution was taken in a joint public meeting of various Naga and Meitei local bodies that was convened at Nagaram Community Hall, Imphal on Sunday.

Several Imphal-based Naga bodies and Meitei clubs on Sunday resolved to collectively strive to swiftly usher peace and normalcy back to Manipur.

The resolution was taken in a joint public meeting of various Naga and Meitei local bodies that was convened at Nagaram Community Hall, Imphal on Sunday. The meeting was jointly organised by the Joint Action Coordination Committee and Coordinating Body, Imphal.

The local bodies include Tangkhul People’s Organisation (TPO) Imphal, Nagaram Village Authority, Poumai Colony Village Authority, Tangkhul Avenue Village Authority, Awang Chaokhong Development Club North AOC, Social Standard Club Khurai Salanthong and Chingmeirong Apunba Club.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, spokesman of Coordinating Body, Imphal Thoidingjam Bon Khurai highlighted other resolutions taken in connection with the present crisis including strengthening the cordial bond between indigenous communities in the state and collectively standing for the peace and unity of Manipur.

He also pointed out that the resolution was reached in a joint meeting between several local bodies from different communities, specifically the Meitei, Tangkhul and Poumai communities.

Meanwhile, TPO Imphal president John Raleng stated that the meeting was a good step to ensure peace and harmony among different neighbouring communities in Manipur.

“We are a Tangkhul body under Tangkhul Naga Long; therefore, we will take their advice in initiating measures to usher in peace and normalcy,” he said.

Accordingly, the Tangkhuls in Imphal would coordinate other local bodies and take part in the peace-building process, he added.

Representatives from all bodies took part in the meeting.
