Manipur Crisis: Fierce gunbattle between village volunteers and Kuki militants

A fierce gun battle between village volunteers and Kuki militants lasted for about 20 minutes followed by a few intermediate exchanges of gunshots continuing till late.

Village volunteers of Kadangband Part I, Imphal West exchanged heavy gunfire with suspected Kuki militants from Geliang village, Kangpokpi district around 9 pm on Tuesday after the suspected militants opened fire at the volunteers.

According to police, the fierce gun battle lasted for about 20 minutes followed by a few intermediate exchanges of gunshots continuing till late. No casualties have been reported till the filing of this report, it added.

The BSF and 7th MR armed with LMGs also opened fire towards the attackers, while 22nd AR deployed atop Singda turned on several of their search lights to indicate their presence in the area, sources said.
