The Manipur crisis could be resolved within no time by retracing and raising the state’s intricate long history to the Centre accurately, retired official Sarangthem Manaobi (Khoiranthaba) said on Friday.
“The anger of people against fringe elements aiming to break the territory of a region whose history surpasses two thousand years cannot be suppressed easily; at this juncture educating the centre on the state’s history could aid in resolving the issue swiftly,” he said.
Speaking to the media at Canchipur, Imphal, Manaobi questioned why the two Manipur MPs were quiet on raising the Manipur crisis and why they were unable to table the issue in the Calling Attention Motion.
As such, he demanded the two MPs to table the Manipur crisis on the floor of the parliament’s monsoon session and even declare an emergency before the parliament session.
“The people have not witnessed any feasible actions from the MPs and their names would be despised if they failed to act on the impulse of the people,” he said.
He highlighted that Manipur had witnessed a chain of Kings starting from 33 AD under which the state had conquered many regions which are all on written record.
He pointed out that the first Kukis in Manipur were brought during the reign of Eningthou Narasingh in 1835-1840 to spy on Burmese war strategies.
“Around 30 Kukis then known as Khongsai were brought in during his reign; the first Meitei settlement in Churachandpur then known as Khuga Tampak started in 1871 with 21 localities,” he said.
He further mentioned that the first Paite settlement in Churachandpur was established in 1939 under the elected King Yelhang Paite. The crisis in Manipur is an attempt to wipe out Meitei history from these areas as such the centre should apprise of Manipur’s history, he added.
He exuded confidence that the centre would be compelled to act if the two Manipur MPs raised all these facts in the parliament along with raising concerns about the SoO militants, the influx of illegal immigrants and drug issues.
He stated that the protection of Manipur’s territorial integrity was important to restore the faith of the people in the government and avoid such incidents from erupting in other states.
The whole issue in Manipur will be resolved only through a political solution, he added.
