Condemning the Modi-led National Democratic Alliance government for suppressing the public voice on demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the infamous Hindenburg’s Adani Scam, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday staged a protest demonstrated in front of Raj Bhawan in Imphal.

The protest is a part of the massive “Chalo Raj Bhavan” march decided by the 85th Plenary Session of the Congress party held at Rajpur.

Monday’s demonstration started with a rally kicked off from the Congress Bhawan in Imphal under the supervision of MPCC president K Meghachandra.

Slogans such as, “Modi government, down-down;” “Down-down BJP”; “Down-down Adani” were chanted during the demonstration.

Speaking to the media, senior spokesperson of MPCC N Bupenda said it is unfortunate that the Modi-led NDA government has withdrawn all statements related to Adani scam from the floor of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

He recalled the JPC sitting against the infamous 1992’s Harshad Mehta scam during the regime of the then Congress Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and against the infamous Ketan Parekh Scam of 2001 during the regime of the then BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“Suppressing the demand of a JPC on Adani scam from all corners by the Modi-led NDA government is proof of perishing democracy from the country during the Modi regime,” he added.

All sections of the public are deplored over the “crony capitalism” of the Modi-led government and its initiative to benefit a few corporate houses like Adani Groups, he said, citing the privatisation of all the resources of the country starting from coil industry to the seaports, railways, and airports and also allegedly permitting Adani to utilise the public’s investment in LIC and other nationalised banks.

“One should not forget that those large amounts of money are the public's hard-earned money, collected after drawing confidence,” Bupenda said.
