Manipur CM N Biren Singh on Thursday extended his wishes to the people of the state on International Yoga Day and appealed to all to join the rest of the World in observing the day.
In his message, the chief minister said that the 10th edition of International World Yoga Day will be observed on Friday on the theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society’. He recalled that the United Nations proclaimed June 21 of every year as the International Day of Yoga, after a proposal was put up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He asserted that ‘yoga’, which means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness, is an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India. The International Day of Yoga aims to increase the visibility and acceptance of Yoga across the world as well as to encourage millions of people to practice it in their daily lives, he said.
He added that the day also underscores yoga’s potential to improve health and balance lifestyle amid the stress of modern life. He further emphasized the need to consume healthy and nutritious food to lead a balanced lifestyle in addition to practicing yoga.
CM Biren also mentioned that the United Nations had declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets at the initiative of India considering the needs of food security as well as sustainability. The same also promotes good health of humanity, combating climate change, maintaining soil health and boosting the income of marginal farmers, he added.
