Even as the case of dengue is alarming in the district, Churachandpur is also witnessing the rising case of Scrub typhus, caused by the bites of parasite, which has 62 cases this year in the district.
Data available to the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, Churachandpur, indicate that the testing kit has been made available by the Health Directorate, Imphal since 2019 in Churachandpur district. And till 2023, the district witnessed 58 Scrub typhus cases including five deaths. And with 62 cases reported this year, the cases since 2019 stand at 120 cases including five deaths.
There was talk of some fatalities due to Scrub Typhus this year too but that is yet to be entertained as the Typhus reportedly affected those people who frequented the forest area, a common practice among the hill dwellers due to vegetation without proper hygiene.
The District Surveillance Officer/IDPS, Churachandpur, said that they do not have proper supply of testing kits for Scrub Typhus with repeated appeals falling on deaf ears to the Health Directorate, Manipur, since 2023. So, all suspected Scrub Typhus cases had to be tested at private clinics, the officer informed.
