At least 10 more dengue cases were reported over the last three days, i.e., October 25, 26 and 27 in Churachandpur town taking the tally to 91 cases in the month of October, the highest for a singles month, according to Malaria department, Churachandpur district, Manipur.
With this, Churachandpur has recorded a total of 134 dengue positive cases in the current year of 2024.
The 10 new positive cases were detected from ten localities within the town where fogging was administered by the Malaria department of Churachandpur district.
Surprisingly, a reliable source said that the State Health Department of Manipur failed to provide information in regards to the rise of dengue cases while the District Malaria Department is fighting tooth and nail to contain the spread of dengue in the district.
Fortunately, there was no report of any deaths due to dengue in the district this year.
Malaria officer Dr Liangoumuan Samte appealed for co-operation of the public to check further increase of dengue cases in the district. He also called for people to cover the lid of their water storage and not have water clotting in their locality.
He also said that the symptoms will be witnessed between 3 to 15 days of the mosquito bite by the carriage of the disease.
It may be mentioned that the supply of testing kits for dengue was not made available by the state health department for some time but testing was made at Krisnaa Diagnostic, District Hospital campus, for free. Tests are also done at private diagnostic centres but patients have to pay for it.
Sources from the Malaria Department also said that many tests for dengue were also done on Monday and they expect the case to rise further. And what was alarming with the cases detected till now is that the symptoms were basically fever. It was more alarming as those mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus are active between July to December of a calendar year.
