Showing signs of rising dengue cases in the district, Churachandpur in Manipur reported 36 positive cases in the month of October alone (1-14) taking the year’s tally for the district to 79; this is as per record from the concerned authorities of the district.
Dengue cases were detected at 13 localities which were also inside the proper town and the suburb areas. Many suspected cases were detected on Monday and have been sent for testing, the results of which, if positive, could be more alarming considering the present situation.
In regards to the alarming rise of dengue cases, the Malaria Department of Churachandpur district took up extensive fogging at various localities including Chengkonpang, Zenhang Lamka, Tuibong and Kamdou veng where high concentrations of dengue cases are being reported.
There are two varieties of mosquitoes which cause dengue and malaria where experts say that those mosquitoes causing malaria are mostly active between January to June and those mosquitoes causing dengue are more active between June to December of the year.
The fight to control and contain dengue was led by the District Malaria Officer, Dr Liangoumuan Samte, where the initiative was hampered by lack of funds due to the present crisis in Manipur. So, they undertook fogging and made a case study to control its further spread, though supply of testing kits has stopped and one can avail the free service only at Krisna Diagnostic inside the District Hospital campus apart from other diagnostic centers where one has to pay from their pockets.
So far, there has been no report of fatality from dengue in the district.
