Vineet Joshi, a 1992 Manipur cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Manipur, replacing Dr Rajesh Kumar, whose term was previously extended for a year, official sources said on Sunday.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved repatriation of Vineet Joshi, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, to his parent cadre on the request of the Manipur government, a government order stated.
On return from Central Deputation, the Governor of Manipur appointed Dr Vineet Joshi as Chief Secretary (Finance/IT/DP/Cabinet/Planning), Government of Manipur & Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Manipur and Principal Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi in addition, with immediate effect and until further orders.
Before going on central deputation, Vineet Joshi served as the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Vineet Joshi was appointed after superseding three other IAS officers MH Khan (1988 cadre), Moses Challai (1990 cadre) and P Vaiphei (1991 cadre), all of Manipur cadre.
Earlier, in view of the prevailing situation in the state, the governemnt appointed Ashutosh Sinha, ADGP (Intelligence), as the overall operational commander, to bring normalcy in the state. Read: Ashutosh Sinha appointed new police head in Manipur
