Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh files nomination, declares assets worth Rs 1.8 crore

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday filed his nomination as the BJP candidate from Heingang Assembly constituency for the Manipur Assembly Election 2022.

Biren filed his nomination on the fifth day of nominationas as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate of Heingang Assembly constituency at the office of RO, 2-Heingang AC in Imphal East. He was accompained by state BJP president A Sharda Devi and his supporters.

After filing his nomination paper, Biren extended "best wishes" to all BJP candidates filing nominations for the upcoming election.

"It gives me immense pleasure to file the nomination as the BJP candidate from Heingang AC at the Office of Returning Officer today. I was joined by Smt.@AShardaDevi Ji, Pres. @BJP4Manipur. Best wishes to all BJP candidates filing nominations for the upcoming election," Biren said in a Twitter post.

In his poll affidavits, Biren declared assets worth Rs 108,46,392, including movable and immovable assets.

The chief minister's total movable assets is worth Rs 69,46,392.98. This includes Rs 1,95,000 cash in hand, a balance of Rs 58,26,872 in three bank accounts. He owns a Mahindra bolero worth over 6 lakh, a .32 Walter pistol.  

As immovable assets, Biren has Rs 39,00,000 worth, of which Rs 9,00,000 is self-acquired and inherited assets worth Rs 39,00,000. Singh has Rs 1,44,300 as liabilities (loans).

Speaking to reporters, Biren termed the Congress manifesto "impractical and difficult to implement", and mere propaganda to bluff the people. He called his rival P Sharatchandra from Congress party as a candidate in name only and declared his easy win.

Biren said, "The BJP manifesto is almost ready; it will be published soon and will not bluff the people".

The manifesto will focus on establishing higher education; development of social sectors like before; empowering youth; improving sports infrastructure; targeting more organic agriculture and horticulture products, etc., he added.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the leader. BJP is leading the Central government and the famous star campaigner is the Prime Minister himself. However, a star campaigner list will also be updated soon,” he said.

Regarding the poll-related violence in connection with party tickets, Biren said that the issue has been solved by holding talks with the aspirants. He appealed to the public not to cause any violence and vote for whoever they choose to elect.

As Manipur is set to go to polls on February 27 and March 3, the CEC said that nomination papers will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on February 9, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11.
