Manipur: Chandel rally against drugs, intoxicants and alcohol

The rally, organised with an aim to put an end to drugs, intoxicants and alcohol abuse, saw support from the general public of the district besides CSOs, student and Church bodies such as CNPO, NSUC, etc.

Hundreds of Chandel denizens rallied in the district headquarters on Monday against drugs, intoxicants and alcohol abuses calling for an end to such and for a healthier life.

Organised by Chandel Naga Christian Forum (CNCF), the ‘Public Rally Against Drugs, Intoxicants and Alcohol Abuse’ was held from Maha Union Govt Higher Secondary School, Chandel till DC Lamkhai.

The rally, organised with an aim to put an end to drugs, intoxicants and alcohol abuse, saw support from the general public of the district besides CSOs, student and Church bodies such as CNPO, NSUC, etc.

During the public rally, the CNCF, CNPO and NSUC made a solemn declaration that “the people of Chandel, in one voice and accord, solemnly declare our united stand against all forms of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and any illegal substances within the jurisdiction of Chandel District and beyond.”

“This pledge represents our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our community from the devastating effects of these substances. Today the people of Chandel, as represented by the Chandel Naga Christian Forum, the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation, and the Chandel Naga Students’ Union, we stand together to protect our future generations. In the interest of fostering a healthy, peaceful, and prosperous society, we hereby declare the strict prohibition of the use, sale, possession, and conveyance of all forms of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and any illegal substances within the District of Chandel,” the declaration read.

The CNCF, CNPO and NSUC also pledged “to act not merely in words, but through our deeds. We commit to working tirelessly for the common good, to standing against injustice in all its forms, and to lifting those whose voices have been silenced. We vow to remain vigilant, to protect the vulnerable, and to ensure that our future generations inherit a society of peace, prosperity, and respect for all”.

The declaration was signed by Reverend Shonnai Saka president, CNCF; Reverend John Calvin Anal, General Secretary, CNCF; D Francis Thamdok Lamkang, president, CNPO; Sh Kalenchung Monsang general secretary, CNPO; Sh Felix for Ruwnglar Elly Anal president, NSUC and by Southe for Sn Bungpem Lamkang general secretary, NSUC.
