The state joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of Forest 2023 (IDF) with the observation held by Society for Environmental Education and Development (SEED), Manipur on Thursday.
SEED stated that at the event, additional PCCF, government of Manipur VL Roui Kulai delivered a lecture on the observation themed ‘Forest and Health’. She talked on various topics including ‘Forest for Social Health’, ‘Forest for Physical Health’ and ‘One Health Approach for Sustainable Development’, it informed.
It maintained that SEED convenor Asha Gupta talked about the characteristics of Manipur’s forest and the need for its conservation and restoration. She also spoke on the need for the integration of traditional knowledge with modern scientific practices in forest management, it continued.
In his welcome address SEED secretary RK Imosana talked about forest functions and ecological services and elaborated on the UN theme of IDF 2023 ‘Forest and Health’, it mentioned.
The event was attended by college teachers, research scholars, SEED members and former president of Environmental Science Section, Indian Science Congress Association MG Tiwari along with Janata College of Education, Chandrapur former principal Shashi Agarwal, it added.
